A Day in the Life of Table Art UAE

So the phone rings, and it’s Sport360 wanting to discuss how Table Art UAE can help to make the forthcoming Middle East Golf Awards different from last year’s event. To be held at the amazing outdoor amphitheatre at the One&Only Royal Mirage, we set up a suitable time for a site visit.

With the annual awards gala dinner celebrating excellence within the golfing leisure sector, the paper was looking for something to set it apart from similar events from previous years – and indeed, the many other gala dinner and awards evenings regularly hosted and sponsored by this popular publication.

We agree that the high Crystal Globes will be the perfect table art for the dinner, since they look a little like a golf ball on a tee….perfect!. The reception and pre-dinner drinks area is to be in a nearby garden…so low crystal globes proved the ideal solution for the cocktail tables. Suggesting various effects, we agree the running order for the evening and return to programme our console accordingly.

On the day….as the sun sets and guests gather in the garden, we start with gently swirling greens, blues, aqua and white – reflecting the garden shades. When dinner is announced – to help guests find their way to the amphitheatre, we change to a ‘mexican wave’ of white lights moving in the appropriate direction. As guests turn the corner and approach the amphitheatre, the high crystal globes are changing through red and white – reflecting the Sport360 logo shades – whereupon there are audible gasps of appreciation. During the meal, we move through a warm white for the starters; candlelight white for the main course, introducing warm coral and soft pinks for the dessert. These colours not only allow clear visibility of the food, but also enhance skin tones, aiding the job of the roving photographers and videographers.

Time for the ‘main event’, the exciting awards section of the meeting….Golfing related awards for guests who have travelled from all over the GCC region. In strict confidence, we have been told at which table the winners of each award will be sitting, and as Richard Dean – the emcee for the evening – announces the nominations, all the lights are dimmed to build anticipation. As the winner is announced, the relevant table art flashes in the darkness; to wild applause the surrounding lights come on as the winners walk to the stage. No one is watching their smart phones… rather using them to record the excitement of the moment. After the awards section, it’s time for some entertainment – whereupon the table arts pulse in time to the music and move through jewel colours to add to the energy and joy of the event. By the time the last stragglers are gathering up their goody bags and personal belongings, it was generally agreed to have been a thoroughly wonderful evening.

The challenge is to top that next year….bring it on Sport360….we’re ready!
